Mr. Selby is a founder of Canada Nickel Company which is advancing the Crawford Nickel Project referred by the Government of Canada to the Major Projects Office and accelerated by the government of Ontario through its new ‘One Project, One Process’ (1P1P) framework.
He has held senior management roles with RNC Minerals, Quadra Mining, Inco, and Purolator Courier, and was a partner at Mercer Management Consulting.
Since 2001, Mr. Selby has been recognized as one of the leading authorities on the nickel market. He graduated from Queen's University with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) and has also served on the boards of multiple junior mining companies.
Mr. Selby joined Inco in 2001 as head of commodities research, went on to have a number of senior roles with Marketing group and took over as VP Strategy & Corporate Development for entire company in early 2005. Inco recognized for early call on China impact on base metals in 2002. In 2003, successfully predicted market squeeze which occurred in 2005/2006. In VP Strategy role, played role in Inco-Falconbridge merger announced October 2005, three way merger with Inco-Falconbridge-Phelps Dodge announced June 2006 and the various transaction iterations including Vale, Glencore, Teck which occurred until Vale successfully acquired in November 2006
In 2010, joined Royal Nickel (later RNC Minerals) as SVP Corporate Development, later CEO in 2014. Took company public in December 2010 to raise $53 million and raised sufficient capital to complete feasibility study and permitting by 2015. Project is one of few large scale base metal projects successfully permitted in Canada during 2010s. As part of development, signed first impact benefits agreement with an Algonquin Fist Nations community in Quebec and successfully developed and transferred novel pyrometallurgical process to Tsingshan to process nickel sulphide concentrates.
