The project is completed in collaboration with Nutrien Allan regarding their Sandvik LH410 and LH307 underground loaders. These loaders only have one attachment point, and Nutrien’s typical work using these loaders often require multiple different attachments, which necessitates several trips back and forth to transport them to each job location. The project concerns designing a device for the simultaneous transportation of multiple loader attachments, which has taken the form of a Mining Skid.

The project is completed in collaboration with Nutrien Allan regarding capture waste heat from the product dryer exhaust. To recover this heat, they recommend utilizing heat pipe technology in a heat exchanger designed by the vendor Solex Thermal Science. The recovered heat will then be used to warm brine before it enters the crystallizer circuit. This will reduce steam usage and, therefore, reduce natural gas consumption in the mill.

As mining methods change to adapt to chevron mining in Potash mining, it was requested of this capstone group to design a new style of borer rebuild and maintenance garage. 3 styles of chevron mining patterns were evaluated, a 5-entry development, a 6-entry development and a production pattern, where the shop is optimized given the current cutting patterns and constraints provided.
