Geological Engineering Presentation: SSR Mining – Seabee Gold Operation. Santoy Gap Hanging Wall Zone Mine Design

The Gap Hanging Wall is a new ore zone at the Santoy underground mine. After collecting on-site rock mass properties, the Geological Engineering Design Group has applied rock mechanics data to estimate stable opening dimensions and support requirements. This analysis has been used to help recommend mining methods for the new zone.

Speakers: Logan Mack, Jack Feltham and Makayla Scheller

Mechanical Engineering Presentation – Improvement of an Underground Service Rope Winder

A Saskatchewan Mine is experiencing inefficiencies with their underground service rope winder that is used to wind decommissioned ropes for removal. These inefficiencies relate to the operator’s inability to easily vary the rate at which the rope is wound and the tendency of the rope to avoid winding evenly across the width of the reel. This Capstone project, done as a requirement for a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Saskatchewan, sought to modify and improve this rope winder to make the process more efficient and require less time.

Speakers: Kurt Yeager, Jonathan Fenske, Ashton Hinz and Riley Tremblay
